How to Troubleshoot a Honda Big Red

The Honda Big Red is an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) that comes as both a four-wheeled cart or four-wheeled motor bike. The engine is a four-stroke 150cc (cubic centimeter) with a dual belt drive. As with any complex machinery, the Honda Big Red may require troubleshooting from time to time. Honda vehicles have long estimated lifespans when compared to similar ATV vehicles, but will need maintenance to keep them going through that lifespan.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the battery on the Honda Big Red for a "No Start" or an attempt at starting with no reaction from the bike. Pull the seat (or drivers seat if in a four-wheel model) straight up to access the battery.

    • 2

Use the ratchet to remove the connectors of the battery, and clean the ends with a wire brush. Push the brush in and out and all around the exposed metal of the connectors. Re-attach the connectors and tighten with the ratchet. Start Big Red normally.

    • 3

Use a voltage meter on the battery if the bike still makes no reaction to start up. Remove the battery from the Big Red and attach the sides of the meter to the two electrical ports on the battery. If the meter reads "0" then the battery will need replacement.

Add gasoline to the Big Red if the vehicle cranks but will not turn over. Watch the gas gauge as the gasoline is introduced to look for malfunction. After filling the tank with the emergency reserve, let the gasoline settle for five minutes and attempt a start.
