Examine the dashboard of your Schwinn scooter to ensure that you have an adequate amount of fuel in the gas tank. Locate the brake levers on the handlebars of the scooter. Make sure to squeeze one of the levers as you attempt to start the engine of your Schwinn scooter. Locate the engine stop switch to make sure it has been rotated into the On position.

Make sure to retract the kickstand of your Schwinn scooter before turning the ignition key. Examine the key to ensure that you have fully inserted it into the ignition. Check to make sure the key has been turned to the On position. Remove the small panel found on the right side of your Schwinn scooter.

Locate the spark plug. Pull the metallic cover off the spark plug and loosen the spark plug from the cylinder with an appropriately sized spark plug wrench. Clean the spark plug with a dry cloth. Fasten the spark plug back onto the cylinder. Align the cover over the spark plug. Locate the air filter cover found on the left side of your Schwinn scooter.

Loosen the screws that surround the cover using a Phillips head screwdriver. Remove the cover to expose the dirty air filter. Remove the filter gently to avoid tearing the material. Shake the filter to remove any dust or debris. Insert the filter back into place. Fasten the cover into place by tightening the screws.

Extend the kick starter foot peg located on the left side of your Schwinn scooter. Twist the throttle of the scooter three to five times to prime the engine. Kick down on the starter foot peg to force fuel into the carburetor. Replace or charge the battery if the engine of the scooter does not start.
