How to Compare Electric Scooters

Electric scooters help urban commuters travel from destination to destination. Scooters can be used instead of a car or public transportation. Electric scooters can be very portable, save you money, and are usually street legal. Check with your local motor vehicle department for information on any regulations or restrictions in your area.
  1. Range

    • The most important factor to consider when purchasing an electric scooter is range. A battery needs to remain charged long enough for you to arrive at your destination and charge the battery.

    Rider Weight

    • How much you weigh will have an impact on the performance of your scooter. Riders under 180 lbs, should not have performance issues. Riders between 180 lbs and 250 lbs might notice some performance problems on some models. Riders over 250 lbs, should only use models made to carry that weight.

    Terrain and Climate

    • For best performance, a scooter should be used in warm weather on flat roads. Extreme temperatures and hilly terrain can affect the scooter's performance, decreasing the range.

    Budget

    • When choosing an electric scooter, budget is a consideration. As of November 2010, electric scooters range from approximately $230 to $2,400.
