How to Snorkel in St Lucia

Underwater adventure is breathtaking anywhere, but the crystal-clear blue waters surrounding St. Lucia make it even more special. The world beneath the blue Caribbean Sea is both delightful and exotic. When visiting St. Lucia, you will enjoy an abundance of marine life, should you decide to go snorkeling. St. Lucia’s waters include sea horses, batfish, frog fish, octopus, sea turtles, and many other brilliantly colored species. Due to the island's volcanic nature, there are a number of coral walls and caves plunging deep into the ocean that make for some perfect diving and snorkeling spots. Most of the best snorkeling sites are within easy reach of each other scattered along the western coastline near the Soufriere Bay and majestic Piton Mountains.

Get started at Anse Chastanet Beach for some of the best snorkeling in the Caribbean. Called Fairy Land, the snorkeling area is buoyed off so you have no concerns about boats near the area. Enjoy an afternoon snorkeling at the site of the Wreck of the Lesleen M freighter, south of Marigot Bay. This ship was intentionally sunk in 1986 by the Department of Fisheries to provide artificial reefs. Covered with sponges, hydroids and corals, the ship also is home to turtles, sea horses, and soldier fish. This is an excellent dive for close-up photography and is a good night dive as well.
