Whether it’s snorkeling, fishing or just a sunset cruise, you need to know what type of trip that particular charter boat has available.
If you are fishing, find out what type of fish you will be catching. Fish in the Gulf of Mexico can range from many different species. Wahoo, shark, Dolphin and Cobia are just a few of the many types of fish you might fish for on your trip. If you are looking for a particular experience such as shark fishing, make sure that the boat you are chartering offers that type of fishing.
Know what is provided as amenities. Some charter boats have all the amenities you will need, but you must find this out first. Will you need a fishing license? How about ice, bait, rods and reels? These are just a few of the items you might need. If you’re not fishing, you will still want to know if the boat has A/C and bathroom facilities. Most charter boats require that you bring your own food and drink, so be sure to ask if alcohol is accepted if you plan to drink.
Find out prices. Charter boat excursions can be somewhat expensive depending on what type of excursion you want to take and how long you plan to be out. Most fishing charters have a designated time that you are out on the water. Make sure to ask about rain or other conditions that might hinder your trip. Find out if a refund is issued if it is canceled.
Inquire about how many people can be on the trip. Some boats can take as little as five people and some might be able to accommodate over 20 people.
