What Attracts Travelers?

The art of luring tourists is one that the patrons of many locations would like to master. Countries like France and Mexico perennially rank among the world's most visited locales for the cultures and experiences they offer to visitors. Factors that help attract travelers include the presence of nature and architecture.
  1. Festivals and Events

    • Travelers enjoy heading to prestigious or longstanding festivals and events. For example, Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany attracts 6 million people annually over its period of 16 days. The Festival of San Fermin is also known for attracting quite a crowd -- composed of multiple species; every October, game participants head to Pamplona, Spain for the festival and attempt to evade sprinting bulls. Events such as these give people the opportunity to celebrate a special happening once a year.

    Historical Architecture

    • Towers, castles and other glamorous buildings have a reputation for netting admirers. Nearly 200 million people have seen the Eiffel Tower, the famous erection that overlooks the Champ de Mars in Paris. The Statue of Liberty, in New York City, also courts visitors in the multiples of millions every year. People might travel in such droves to famous examples of architecture like these to feel apart of history. A photograph backed by a celebrated structure can carry special weight.

    Nature

    • The boom of ecotourism has affirmed the power of nature to encourage travelers. This type of tourism is defined as environmentally moral travel to natural areas that protects and improves the wellness of the location and its native residents. As a 'seventh wonder of the world,' the annual Maasai Mara wildebeest migration is an example of popular ecotourism. It takes place between July and October of every year. At more than $1000 nightly, helping the shelled creatures of Turtle Island in Fiji also courts ecotourists, though at a hight price.

    Shopping

    • Paris' reputation as a haven for fashion helps to improve its attractiveness to tourists. Rodeo Drive, the famed road in Beverly Hills, California, has earned celebrity as well for its luxury brand shopping. But prestige is not the only factor that deems a location as friendly to retail-oriented tourists. Deal-loving travelers gravitate to Hoi An, a city in Vietnam, for excellent bargain shopping. Bangkok, Thailand provides shopping of every tier, from legendary brands to realistic knockoffs.
