Farsi (Persian) in Saudi Arabia: Not Widely Spoken

Farsi (Persian) is not a common language in Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom's official language is Arabic (Najdi, Hejazi, Gulf dialects).

However, a significant Iranian expatriate community exists (estimates 500k–1M). In cities with concentrations (Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Mecca), you'll hear Farsi in homes, businesses, and Shi'a religious gatherings. Some signage in Iranian-run shops may be bilingual.

Saudi schools teach Arabic and English. Farsi is not in the curriculum. Official business, media, and government operate exclusively in Arabic.
