Walk past the first people you see at the port. They usually have the highest prices.
Ex. We checked prices on hair braiding for my niece, at the port it was $80. We walked a couple of miles to the beach and paid $20.
Look at all of the shops that you walk past, most have very similar items. Check the prices on a few items, then continue to walk to other shops.
When you find items that you really like, ask the price. Look as if you are going to walk away, they will usually bring the price down even more. Let them give another offer, then tell them you can pay half of that. With my experience they will usually do it, if not, they still reduce the price even more.
There are so many people trying to sell things at these shops, and they are willing to compete for your business. Shop around you can find great prices.
