Appropriate Swimwear in Cairo, Egypt: Cultural Guidelines

In Cairo (and Egypt generally), swimwear norms are conservative outside international resort compounds:

• Hotel/resort pools & private beaches: Standard Western swimwear (bikinis, trunks) usually acceptable.
• Public beaches / Nile-side pools: Modest coverage recommended. Women: one-piece, tankini, burkini, or swim leggings + tunic. Men: board shorts (not briefs).
• Water parks (e.g., Dream Park, Aqua Park): Often enforce modest dress; check rules.
• Off-beach: Cover up immediately; loose, opaque clothing covering shoulders/knees.

Egypt is majority Muslim; dressing modestly shows respect, avoids harassment, and aligns with local law (public indecency statutes). Tourist areas (Sharm, Hurghada) are more relaxed.
