What do they wear in Saudi Arabia?

Men in Saudi Arabia are expected to wear modest clothing in public. This means covering the shoulders and knees. Additionally, men are not permitted to wear garments such as shorts and tank tops.

Men typically wear long loose pants called "sirwal" or "thawb" depending on the region as well as long sleeved shirts. For formal events, men might also wear a "bisht", which is a long overcloak.

Head coverings are also common, with many men wearing a "ghutrah", which is a square of fabric that is wrapped around the head and held in place by an "agal", a circular band.

Women in Saudi Arabia are expected to wear "abaya" in public. The Abaya is a long, black cloak that covers the entire body, except for the face, hands and feet. Additionally, women are expected to wear a headscarf or niqab, which covers the entire face, except for the eyes.

Within their family compounds, women may wear lighter colored, looser dress like thobes or jallabiyas. The niqab might also be worn only as a face veil leaving the rest of the face uncovered.

While traditional dress is still the most common in Saudi Arabia, some more modern and Westernized clothing is also seen, especially among younger generations.
