Allowable Items for Air Travel

Airport security has been increased due to the risks and dangers of flying in a post-9/11 world. The Transport Security Administration (TSA), has a clearly defined list of permitted and prohibited items for air travel. Consult the agency's complete list online before traveling to safe time and avoid problems.
  1. Liquids and Gels

    • You are permitted to carry liquids and gels in the passenger cabin provided that their containers are 3.4 ounces or smaller. All liquids and gels must be packed in a clear, zip-top plastic bag. Plastic bags must be one quart size or smaller and each passenger is allowed one plastic bag.

    Metal Objects

    • Scissors with a blade length of less than 4 inches are allowed in carry-on bags for air travel. Tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches and pliers with a length of less than 7 inches are permitted.

    Checked Baggage

    • Firearms and weapons may be checked for air travel as long as you have a permit. In the case of packing a firearm, it cannot be loaded and must be stored in a lock-box.
