The currency in Bhutan is the ngultrum (Nu.). It is issued by the Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan. The Bhutanese ngultrum was introduced in 1974 as the country's official currency, replacing the Indian rupee at a rate of 1 ngultrum to 1 rupee. The ngultrum is further subdivided into 100 chetrum (or chatter).
