What is currency?

Currency is a generally accepted medium of exchange for goods and services. It is commonly a form of money, such as banknotes and coins, but may also include electronic forms, such as credit cards and digital currencies. Currency is used as a means of payment for goods and services, and as a store of value. Fiat currencies are the most common form of currency today, and are not backed by any physical commodity, such as gold or silver.
