Navigate to a website with a currency exchange calculator, such as X-Rates.com.
Select "Canadian Dollar" from the drop down menu under the field titled "covert."
Select "British Pound" from the drop down menu under the field titled "into."
Enter the amount of dollars you want to convert into British pounds by typing the number in the field titled "amount." For example, fill in "1" in this field.
Click on the button labeled "calculate" and read the number in the field at the top of the window. For example, when converting one Canadian dollar into one British pound the exchange rate is 0.645526 GBP. This means one Canadian dollar buys you approximately 64 cents on the one British pound.
Call your bank to let them know you will be traveling overseas. They may need to add notes to your account that specify this so your card will not be red-flagged by fraud detectors when used in England.
Inquire about any fees associated with using your card overseas. There is often a different fee for cards used at an ATM for a foreign withdrawal than there is for using your debit card at a store or restaurant. This will help you keep your checking account balanced.
Insert your ATM or debit card into an ATM machine in England. Select "International Card" if prompted to do so.
Type into the ATM machine how much currency (in pounds) you would like to withdraw. The bank handles the conversion so if you want to withdraw 100 pounds, it withdraws the dollars according to the exchange rate, which with the current rate would be around 164 dollars.
