How to Convert GBP to CAD

When traveling out of the country, it's smart to prepare by checking the exchange rate of your native currency to the foreign currency. When you exchange the money, either in your home country or at your destination, you'll know approximately how much money to receive in exchange. GBP is the abbreviation for British pounds, the official currency of the United Kingdom, while CAD stands for Canadian dollars, which is Canada's official currency. Currency rates change daily, but there are many online converters that use the most up-to-date rates.

  Open a Web browser. Log on to the currency conversion site of your choice. See the Resource section for three options.

  Select "United Kingdom Pounds" or "British" pounds in the first list, which is commonly labeled as the "From" currency or "Currency I Have."

  Select "Canadian Dollars" from the second list, labeled as "To" or "Currency I Want."

  Enter an amount of money you want to convert in the "Amount" field. For instance, enter "100" to convert 100 British pounds to Canadian dollars.

  Click the "Convert" or "Go" button to view the converted amount. Some converters, such as OANDA's, will display the converted amount as soon as you choose the currencies.
