DHs is the unofficial but most commonly used abbreviation of the United Arab Emirates' currency, the Dirham. Due to the rise of the Emirates' status, particularly Dubai and Abu Dhabi, as a popular destination for British tourists (and Britain as an attraction for wealthy Emirates' nationals), the need to convert the currency to its British pounds equivalent has grown. Luckily, the Internet is able to provide its users with all the necessary tools and information to convert DHs to GBP, either through automatic converters or manually, using the latest exchange rates.
Learn the current exchange rate between Dirhams and Pounds. XE (see Resources) can help you; just remember to search for the Dirham using its official ISO abbreviation, AED. Even if you have an approximate figure in mind, the rates change from day to day, even from hour to hour. As of January 8, 2011, a Pound equals to 5.7 Dirhams, and a Dirham is 0.18 Pounds.
Make the conversion yourself -- all you need is strong multiplication skills. Just multiply your amount of money by the exchange rate and you will have its foreign equivalent. For example, 5 British Pounds will be: 5 --- 5.7 = 28.5 Dirhams. Likewise, 50 DHs will equal to: 50 --- 0.18 = 9 Pounds.
Use division, if you find multiplication with numbers less than 1 confusing. If you have 70 Dirhams in hand and you want to learn their value in British currency, do: 70 / 5.7 = 12.3. It is not much easier, but it helps when you can't multiply by "0." numbers on the spot.
Learn the equivalents of basic amounts by heart. If, for example, you are aware of how many Dirhams is 2, 5, 10 and 20 Pounds, you will be able to recognize a commodity's approximate value immediately.
