How to Convert Swiss Francs to Pounds Sterling

European travel can be an exciting adventure, and in most regions the euro has taken the place of national currencies. However, Switzerland has retained the Swiss franc and Britain has retained the pound sterling. Travel from Switzerland to Britain will involve currency conversion if you want to change your francs into pounds. To estimate the amount of pounds you can buy with your francs, do a simple calculation based on the current rate of exchange for the currencies.

Instructions

    • 1

Calculate the amount of money you have in Swiss francs. Write this amount on a piece of paper or enter it into a spreadsheet with a multiplication function.

    • 2

Obtain the current exchange rate for converting Swiss francs to pounds sterling, otherwise known as Great Britain pounds. Do this by visiting a conversion website, or calling your bank or a currency exchange business. Make sure you use a conversion equation that states one franc is equal to "x" amount of pounds. The opposite equation, one pound is equal to "x" francs, is used to convert pounds to francs and will not give you the correct result.

    • 3

Multiply the amount you have in francs by the current exchange rate. For example, if you have 100 Swiss francs and the current exchange rate is 1 Swiss franc is equal to 0.65 British pounds, you would multiply 100 by 0.65 with the result of 65 British pounds.

    • 4

Bring your Swiss currency to a bank or currency exchange business that can convert your francs into pounds. You may be able to do this at an airport, or at a location in the United Kingdom. Use the estimate you have calculated to give you an idea of how much money you will receive. However, be aware that currency exchange companies will charge a fee for their service and exchange rates are in constant flux. Therefore, you may receive more or less in pounds than you were expecting.
