Prepare a form of identification, such as your driver's license or passport, and your check book. If you are obtaining traveler's cheques from your personal banking institution, you may wire money from your account to a cheque with your account number and form of identification.
Visit your nearest banking institution or currency exchange office. Ask the teller you want to purchase traveler's cheques.
Write a check or wire transfer the amount you want to convert into traveler's cheques. It is best to get a mixture of denominations, such as $20, $50 and $100.
Sign the back of your traveler's cheques to prevent theft if stolen or lost. The bank teller will give you a receipt, which you will need to show the bank if your traveler's cheques are lost or stolen.
