Confirm that you are eligible for a Danish passport. Passports are only issued to citizens of Denmark. Danish nationality is obtained automatically through birth or adoption by a Danish parent or parents. Citizenship may also be obtained through naturalization by submitting an application for citizenship to the Danish state.
Download a passport application form from the website of the Embassy of Denmark in Washington. Passport applications may also be available on the websites of Danish consulates or from the offices of Danish consulate generals or honorary consulates. Applicants must complete and sign two passport applications.
Obtain two passport photos. Passport photos must show the full face of the applicant. Photographs can be in black and white or color and should not have a white background. Applicants can download complete passport photo guidelines from the Embassy of Denmark website.
Ensure you have all the necessary documents to support your passport application. Applicants must submit a current or expired Danish passport, if applicable. Applications must also be accompanied by the applicant's Alien Registration Card (Green Card) or valid visa, including I-94 or I-94W U.S. Customs and Border Protection declaration forms. Proof of the applicant's Danish Civil Registration Number must also be provided by supplying other Danish government-issued identification. If the applicant is a minor, application forms must also be accompanied by the child's original birth certificate containing the names of the parents, the parents' passports and visas or green cards, and the parents' marriage certificate, if applicable.
Locate the nearest Danish diplomatic mission. Applicants should call or email the diplomatic mission to determine if an appointment is necessary to submit the application. The Embassy of Denmark is located in Washington, and two consulate generals are found in New York and Chicago. Honorary consulates are also found in 37 cities in the continental United States, Hawaii, Alaska and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Submit your application form with supporting documents and the application fee at the nearest Danish diplomatic mission. Applicants must submit their applications in person at the embassy, consulate general or honorary consulate.
