Locate your birth certificate or other proof of U.S. citizenship. Before a passport can be issued to an Arkansas resident, the applicant must prove that she is a citizen of the United States of America.
Determine the time frame needed to receive the passport. Arkansas offers several passport facilities, such as the post office or private businesses, that can assist you with receiving an expedited passport. Applying at your local post office will usually allow you to receive your passport within six weeks.
Obtain and complete the passport application online or print out a blank form by visiting the Department of State's online passport wizard (see Resource). Obtain a money order for the passport fees. Be sure to factor in the cost of the actual passport processing as well as any fees that the acceptance location assesses. The fee for obtaining a passport in Arkansas as of June 2010 is $75 for an adult passport and $60 for a child under the age of 16.
Obtain two passport-size photos from any post office in Arkansas that accepts passport applications or locate a photographer or photo-processing business to get your pictures taken. Include the photos with the application when submitting it through the local post office or acceptance location.
Submit the passport application to the processing center or post office located in your area (see References). Simply give the completed application, the passport size photos, citizenship documentation and the required fees to the clerk designated to process passport applications. A receipt for the fee payment is given by the clerk and the passport will arrive at the address you designated for receipt on the passport application form.
