What money did Malaysia use in the past?
Malaysia has used a few different types of money in the past. The earliest known currency was the Kepeng, which was used in the Malay Archipelago from the 7th to the 15th century. It was made of copper or bronze, and was shaped like a small, round coin. The Kepeng was followed by the Kasut, which was used from the 15th to the 19th century. The Kasut was also made of copper or bronze, but it was larger than the Kepeng and had a more intricate design.
In the 19th century, Malaysia began using the Malayan dollar, which was pegged to the British pound sterling. The Malayan dollar was replaced by the Malaysian ringgit in 1967. The ringgit is still used as Malaysia's currency today.
