Albanian Currency: The Lek
The currency of Albania is the lek (plural: lekë), abbreviated ALL.
- Subunit: 1 lek = 100 qindarkë (qindarka) — now obsolete in practice.
- Etymology: Named after Alexander the Great (Leka i Madh in Albanian), whose portrait appeared on early coins.
- Coins: 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 lekë.
- Banknotes: 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 lekë.
- Exchange rate (approx.): 1 USD ≈ 95–100 ALL; 1 EUR ≈ 100–105 ALL (varies).
Cash is widely used; cards accepted in cities. Euros sometimes accepted in tourist areas, but change given in lekë.
