Caribbean Cruise Checklist

That long-awaited Caribbean cruise is just a short time away and there are so many things to do before you leave town. A pre-cruise checklist can help you with so much more than just packing the right clothing. Before you take off, determine what issues you need to address and resolve them. Early preparation makes for a more relaxing vacation.
  1. Medical Issues

    • Putting off that visit to the doctor or delaying necessary medical treatment may later pose a problem on the cruise ship. Take care of any health problems or potential health problems before you leave town. If there are any concerns about your travel itinerary such as allergies, dietary restrictions or certain physical limitations, address these with your doctor. Review all your life and health insurance policies regarding policy limits and restrictions of certain items or conditions. Make arrangements for travelers insurance to take care of any gaps in coverage.

    Withdraw Cash

    • Most cruise ships have several ATM's on board if you need cash. However, it just makes good sense to have a bit of emergency cash if you need to cover some unexpected expense or a technical problem with the ATM or your bank. When things go badly as they sometimes do, nothing feels as good as the security of knowing you have a secret stash or cold, hard cash. Just remember to never take more cash than you can afford to lose.

    Home Safety

    • Always let local law enforcement officials, or a trusted neighbor or friend know that you are traveling out of town. Purchase some of those timers and hook them up to lights and radios that will come on and go off automatically throughout the day or night. Have neighbors pick up your mail and newspapers every day. If someone cannot come by everyday and tend to your pets, make arrangements for a kennel in advance as they tend to fill up quickly in the summer. If you're not completely at peace about your home when you're away, you can always hire a house-sitter.

    Other Essentials

    • Some of the most commonly forgotten items are those overlooked in the pre-cruise packing stage. Cruise passage contract, passport, visa, medical insurance cards, travel insurance policies, any legal custody documents for minor children if necessary and any other vital documentation should remain with you personally. Get your prescriptions filled before leaving. Take an extra suitcase if you plan to shop. Make advance arrangements for any formal wear needed on the ship. Above all, never pack anything in your luggage you could possibly lose forever.
