How do I Find Country & City Codes for Phone Calls?

Defined by the Telecommunications Standardization Sector, an international regulatory agency based in Switzerland, country and city dialing codes allow callers to speak to friends around the world by merely defining a simple number sequence preceding the telephone number. The numbers vary depending on city and country, but always consist of a plus symbol preceding a three- to five-digit sequence.

Using the White Pages

  Open a large, nationally issued edition of the white pages phone book to the table of contents.

  Skim through the contents and find the item listed "International Dialing Codes."

  Turn to the "International Dialing Codes" page. Find the country code you are looking for in the list. In most cases, they will be organized in alphabetical order.
Search the Web

  Go to Countrycallingcodes.com.

  Click the left drop-down menu and select the country you will be calling from.

  Click the right drop-down menu and select the country you would like to call.

  Click "Submit."

  Click the "City Info" drop-down menu and select the city you would like to call.

  Click "Submit." The country and city code sequence will be displayed on the following page.
