Plan to go to the lake during the middle of the week when possible. Avoid crowds and enjoy smooth water mid-week.
Bring a picnic lunch. Plan to use a barbecue grill and a picnic table at one of the many pavilions.
Pack swimming suits and towels for swimming in the lake. Bring towels and chairs for relaxing on the nice sandy beach.
Bring money for the entrance fee into the park. Pay a small charge for each person entering the park over the age of 13. Parking is free.
Take a hike on one of Lake Ray Roberts tree lined trails. Wear plenty of bug spray on the hike to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes, ticks or other Texas critters.
Bring sand pails and shovels for digging in the sand and building a sand castle. Use plastic cups and spoons if you forget the sand toys.
Bring toiletries, and clean clothing so you can shower before you leave. Wash up the kiddos and yourself for a nice clean car ride home, free from sand and bugs.
