What Are the Weather Regions in the United States?

According to KGAN's Weather Eye, the continental United States is comprised of seven distinct weather regions, defined by average climate. There are two more weather regions that cover Alaska and Hawaii as well.
  1. Northwestern Region

    • The Northwestern weather region is comprised of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming.

    High Plains Region

    • The High Plains weather region is made up of North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska and Kansas.

    Midwest/Ohio Valley Region

    • The Midwest/Ohio Valley weather region consists of the following states: Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.

    New England/Mid Atlantic Region

    • The New England/Mid Atlantic Region is the region with the most states. It consists of West Virginia, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Pennsylvania, New York and Maine.

    Southeast & Southern Regions

    • The Southeast region is made up of Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia and Florida. The Southern region is comprised of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana.

    Southwestern Region

    • The Southwestern region includes California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico.
