Develop a plan. When you’re getting ready to move, the first thing you need to do is develop a plan of action. Make a list of the tasks that you need to accomplish and the deadline for each task. Moving can be overwhelming but if you have a method of organization, it will make your life much easier.
Have all the right boxes. Take inventory of everything that you have and decide what kind of boxes you need. Keep in mind that you will need different boxes to pack different items. For example, books will get packed in a certain type of box while clothes will be packed in another box. Do not wait until the last minute to find the boxes that you need to move. This will cause you unnecessary stress.
Hire the mover or make arrangements for moving day. If you’re going to hire a mover, try to do so at least 30 days in advance. Moving companies book up quickly and you don’t want to be stuck with a bunch of packed boxes and no way to move them. If you aren’t going to hire a mover, confirm your moving plans with reliable friends and make the appropriate arrangements such as securing the moving vehicle.
Pack your breakable items first. These items usually take more time and a lot more effort to pack, so allow yourself a sufficient amount of time.
Pack the unbreakable items, which take less time to pack. If you run out of time, you can throw all these items in a box and not have to worry about them breaking.
