Will princess Mary become queen of Denmark?

Princess Mary has been Crown Princess of Denmark since her marriage to Crown Prince Frederik in 2004. Upon the death or abdication of her mother-in-law, Queen Margrethe II, Princess Mary will automatically become Queen Consort of Denmark. This is because Denmark has a male-preference primogeniture succession system, meaning that males are given priority over females in the line of succession. Therefore, Frederik will be the one to succeed Margrethe as the next monarch. As his wife, Mary will therefore become the Queen Consort.
