Ghana Travel Visa Declaration Requirements

Ghana is a beautiful country in West Africa. Tourists can relax on beaches and visit historical sites such as the Cape Coast Castle, from where African slaves were shipped across the Atlantic Ocean. In addition to tourism, Ghana is also an economic hub for West Africa and home to many thriving businesses. Regardless of their reasons for traveling to Ghana, visitors need to complete the visa application form to obtain permission to enter the country.
  1. Application Timeline

    • A visa application, available online, must be submitted to the embassy within two to four weeks of the proposed trip. The application will be processed within seven business days. If the application is approved, a visa will be stamped in the applicant's passport. If rejected, the consular officer does not need to offer an explanation.

    Necessary Documents

    • All applicants must complete and submit two copies of the visa application form. Additionally, a valid passport and two passport photographs must also be included for consideration. The photographs must have been taken within three months of the application. Ghanaian consular staff may request a copy of the applicant's return ticket.

    References/Place of Residence

    • The visa application requests the names and contact information of two Ghanaian references. If they are not available, the applicant must write down where he will be staying, be it a private residence or a hotel.

    Fees

    • Most visa applications require a processing fee which varies depending on the type of visa requested. There is no visa fee for citizens of the Economic Community of West African States. All other citizens must pay for their visa application. Cost for a single entry visa is $60. An expedited single entry visa and a multiple entry visa both cost $100. An expedited multiple entry visa costs $200. Expedited visas will be completed within 72 hours. Visa fees can only be paid via money order, postal order, cashiers check or certified bank check.

    Health Requirements

    • Every person visiting Ghana must be immunized against yellow fever. Proof of immunization will be requested at the port of entry into Ghana. Without this proof, a visitor might be deported back to their country of residence or origin.
