Requirements for a Tourist Visa From China to the USA

A tourist visa is required for all Chinese citizens to enter the United States. The application must be done in person through an interview with an U.S. consulate authority. Making sure that you have all required documents, paperwork and written letters ahead of time will ensure a smooth interview process and quicker visa approval.
  1. Application Form

    • All applications must complete the online application form DS-160 accessible through the website of the Embassy of the United States in Beijing. Follow the procedures on each page until you are finished and have verified that all information is correct. Press "submit" and print the application confirmation page. On this page you must hand write the telecodes and Hanzi version of your name, address and work address. Refer to the U.S. Embassy website for a listing of telecodes (beijing.usembassy-china.org.cn).

    Required Documents

    • Along with the printed confirmation page, you must have a passport with at least six months remaining validity and one blank page, one passport size (2 x 2 inch) recent color photograph, any expired passports containing previous U.S. visas, and a bank receipt of the application fee paid at a CITIC bank in China (the receipt must be pasted to the spot provided on the printed DS-160 confirmation page).

    Proof of Return

    • To be eligible for a visa, you must be able to prove your intent to return to China. This includes family ties such as children and a spouse, a letter from an employer, proof of assets or investments such as property and regular bank statements showing monthly salary rates.

    Proof of Financial Stability

    • Aside from being able to prove your intent to return to China, you must prove your ability to financially support yourself while in the U.S. It is recommended that you print bank and savings accounts statements from the previous three months as well as collect all relevant pay stubs. Requesting a letter of employment from your employer stating your monthly salary is a good idea if possible.

    Special Case Documents

    • Those traveling to the U.S. for purposes other than tourism, such as visiting friends and relatives, must show proof of connection and provide an invitation letter from the U.S. host. You must have information available on who you are visiting, where you intend to go (providing an itinerary or schedule helps) and what you intend to do. If you are visiting family, you must be able to prove that you have been in ongoing contact with them and be able to provide detailed information about their immigration to and current status in the U.S.. Documents that help prove relation include photocopies of your relative's passport, green card or visa as well as a photo of the two of you together.

    Interview

    • The final requirement for the tourist visa is to attend the application interview at the U.S. Embassy and submit all required documents and answer any necessary questions.
