Visa Requirements for UK Citizens to the USA

The U.S. Department of State has several different visas that they offer for people who plan on coming to the United States. The visa is determined by their reason for entering the country and how long they need they are going to be in the United States. The most common visas that are requested from the Department of State are tourist visas, work visas and student visas.
  1. Tourist Visas

    • Citizens of the United Kingdom are not required to obtain a tourist visa before they enter the United States. The United States has signed a treaty with the United Kingdom that makes the U.K/ part of a US program called the Visa Waiver Program. The VWP allows all British nationalists to enter the United States for stays of less than three months for purposes of tourism, pleasure, medical treatment or business without a visa.

    Work Visas

    • People who wish to enter the United States will have to complete a DS-160 Nonimmigrant Visa Form as well as a I-129H form that will have to be filed with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services. All U.K. citizens will have to submit the application as well as their national passport so they can process the visa. The employer will have to complete the paperwork with the USCIS as he will have to show that either your skills are invaluable to the company or there is a labor shortage in the field you are looking to work in.

    Student Visas

    • U.K. students who wish to come to the United States to attend an American university must apply for a student visa before entering the country.
