Who created bathing suit?
The first known one piece bathing suit was designed in the 1880s by Annette Kellerman. Kellerman was a professional swimmer and vaudeville performer who was an advocate for women's rights. She designed her bathing suit as a more practical and comfortable alternative to the heavy and restrictive dresses that were typically worn for swimming at the time. It took many years for it to become socially accepted. Kellerman's swimsuit caused controversy at the time due to its revealing nature, and it was banned from many public beaches and pools. However, she persisted in wearing it and using her public performances to advocate for women's rights and the freedom of women to engage in physical activities. Eventually, Kellerman's efforts paid off and the style of swimsuit she introduced became widely accepted and popular, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of swimwear and women's fashion.
