Plan your school bag personalization design. Decide the color of fabric paint you want to use and what you want to paint on your bag if you want to paint something besides your name. Sketch it out on paper with a pencil before you begin. You may want to try a few different designs before deciding on the right one. Plan the font you want to use.
Practice spelling your name on the pre-printed paper towel. Michael's online states that this is an effective way to practice line work with fabric paint. Hold the paint bottle at an angle for raised linework; for flat linework, hold the bottle vertically.
Hold the paint applicator tip against the fabric comfortably in the crook of your hand. Drag the tip along the fabric so that the paint seeps into the fibers as you move along. Make one 3-to-4-inch line at a time as you paint and then pick up the tip and start again just past the end of the first line. Repeat this 3-to-4-inch line process until you reach the desired line length that you wish to achieve.
Add stencils to the design if desired. Stencils can be held in place with pins or tape. Paint inside of the stencil with the paint pen by tapping vertically and holding the pen straight up and down. Remove the stencil slowly and allow the paint to dry before painting another area too close to the stencil to avoid smearing.
Sprinkle a little glitter onto the wet paint for an added embellishment, if desired.
Allow 24 hours to dry and 74 hours to cure.
