Transferring a CDL from Honolulu to Las Vegas: Nevada Reciprocity Rules

Good news: Nevada honors full reciprocity for valid out-of-state CDLs.

If You Hold a Valid HI CDL

• No knowledge or skills tests required.
• Process at NV DMV:
  1. Surrender HI CDL.
  2. Provide: **Current DOT Medical Card** (Form MCSA-5876), **Proof of NV Residency** (2 docs: lease, utility, bank), **Identity/SSN** (Real ID docs), **HI driving record** (optional but recommended).
  3. Pass **vision test**.
  4. Pay fee (~$58.25 + endorsements).
  5. Receive **NV CDL** (same class/endorsements/restrictions).

Critical Caveats

• HazMat (H) Endorsement: **Must redo TSA background check** (fingerprints, $86.50, 30–45 days). Cannot transfer.
• Medical Card: Must be **current & on National Registry**. Expired = downgrade to Class D.
• Disqualifications: Any active suspension/revocation in HI or any state blocks transfer.
• Under 21: Intrastate only (K restriction) until 21.
