You can sign up to receive email and SMS flight status alerts on FlightStats (see Resources). Register for a free account on the site for access to information on your flights. You can access this information by entering the flight number and airline type, the airport, or by entering the airports that the flight is arriving to and departing from.
FlightStats information is available up to three hours before the scheduled departure of the plane. You'll be notified if the flight is delayed by more than 30 minutes, if it is canceled or has been diverted, and when it arrives at its destination.
You can receive SMS flight status messages. Text your flight number to "466453," which is linked to a Google SMS application that will send you the flight status in a text message.
Many local airports use FlightStats tracking information on their websites. You can sign up for flight tracking emails and text messages by navigating to your local airport's website and clicking "Flight Information."
