Eighteen months before you emigrate, prepare your living situation in the new country. At the same time, update and register your visas and passports.
Within 12 months before your departure, begin updating and transferring all important records to your new country. Important forms such as a birth certificate, marriage certificate and employment records must be processed by the new country's department of state. This is also a good time to manage any previous debts or issues with bank or credit accounts.
Six months before it is time to emigrate, all medical records and procedures must be in order. Each country has its own immunization laws; so, you must prepare yourself for immunizations and physicals. All medical records need to be processed to the new country. During this six-month window, you should also set up all bank and financial accounts in the new country's banks. If you don't yet have a place to live, contact the state department of the new country. The state department will connect you with a resettlement agent who helps people who are new to the country.
Finalize your living situation. Begin packing and find an international shipping company to transfer your belongings.
Cancel or transfer all existing accounts to the new country. Utilities and insurance accounts are usually canceled and new accounts are set up in the new country. You must also set up a new address and mailing account and have all mail forwarded to the new address. Double check shipping dates to ensure that your belongings are delivered to the new country.
On the final day, exchange all currency into the new country's currency. Keep your visa or passport with you at all times.
