How do I Travel With a Pet to Hungary?

Traveling to Hungary is not a trip you must take solo. With proper documentation and approval, your pet can travel to Hungary with you as well. You should always check entry requirements for animals before traveling to Hungary on the Hungarian embassy website. Requirements can change at any time without warning.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit a vet to insert a microchip that meets ISO standards. This microchip will be a way to identify your dog when traveling to Hungary. The vet will place the chip under the skin to identify your pet.

    • 2

Visit a United States Department of Agriculture-approved veterinarian for a complete check-up for your pet. Before traveling to Hungary, your vet must approve the pet for travel. This means that your pet is in good health and is current on all shots. The appointment must be completed within 30 days of travel.

    • 3

Complete the paperwork needed for a pet passport. You will need a European Union 998 form. Your veterinarian should have copies of these forms. They are also available from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
