How to Send Money to Nepal From the United States

Those planning to trek through Nepal may need to transfer money to their outfitter prior to their arrival in the country. There are two main options when transferring money from the United States to Nepal -- you can send money by Western Union or through your local bank.

Instructions

  1. Via Western Union

    • 1

Find the nearest Western Union location to where you live. You can search for the nearest location on Western Union's website. Many grocery stores, gas stations and convenience stores are Western Union agent locations.

    • 2

Bring the name of the person you are transferring money to and the amount of money you plan to transfer in cash to the Western Union agent location. Be sure to have enough additional cash to pay the transfer fee. The fee to transfer money is typically around $10, though it may vary depending on how much money you plan to transfer to Nepal.

    • 3

Follow the agent's instructions to make the transfer. At some locations, there will be a phone that you will use to speak with a Western Union agent. The agent will give you the Money Transfer Control Number.

    • 4

Fill out the transfer form with your name and address.

    • 5

Hand the cash to the agent or cashier.

    • 6

Sign the receipt and take and save your copy of it.

    • 7

Inform the recipient that their money is ready to be picked up.

    Via Bank Transfer

    • 8

      Head to your local bank.

    • 9

Bring with you the name of the recipient, their bank address, and the bank routing number.

    • 10

Ask a teller to complete a transfer from one of your bank accounts to the recipient's bank.

    • 11

      Pay the bank transfer fee.

    • 12

Notify the recipient that their money has been transferred to their bank.
