How to Send Money From Nigeria to the UK

If you are in Nigeria and need to get some money to a friend, family member or business in the United Kingdom, you quick ways to get it there other than taking it there yourself. Instead, you can just send the money from Nigeria to the person or business in the UK. More than one option is available for sending money from Nigeria to the UK. Fees vary for each of the methods depending on how much money you are sending abroad and how quickly you need the money to be available for the recipient.

  Send money using a money agent, such as MoneyGram or Western Union. Each has offices in both Nigeria and the UK. You can send the money so that the recipient can pick it up at a UK agent location, so that it arrives at his home or business address or in his bank account. In Nigeria, MoneyGram locations can be found only at Equitorial Trust Bank (ETB), UBA, First Bank of Nigeria, Bank PHB, Union Bank of Nigeria PLC, Fidelity Bank, Spring Bank PLC and Afribank of Nigeria PLC.

  Look for a local bank in Nigeria that has a branch or affiliate bank in the UK. If you are not sure, you can visit each bank to ask. When you find one, send a wire transfer to the recipient in the UK. Using a bank with an affiliate or UK branch is the quickest way to send a wire transfer. You can actually send a wire transfer from any bank, but the transit time can be up to 10 business days if the banks are not affiliated.

  Employ an online money transfer service, such as Moneybookers or PayPal, to send money to the UK. The recipient does need to have a free account with the service. The money is transferred instantly to the recipient with an online money transfer service.
