How to Connect to the Q7 Bus From Q6

New York City's public transportation system is far reaching with more buses than any other municipality on the continent and the most subway cars in the world. The system moves over 7 million people each day into every corner of the five boroughs and beyond. All buses and trains use the all-purpose MetroCard although buses do still accept change. The Q6 runs from Sutphin Boulevard to Rockaway Boulevard and the Q7 runs from Rockaway Boulevard to Pitkin Avenue.

Instructions

    • 1

Board the Q7 bus anywhere along its route heading for Rockaway Boulevard and 150th street in South Jamaica, Queens. Swipe your MetroCard or pay with exact change at the automated till at the front of the bus.

    • 2

Watch the stops as they pass. When the Rockaway Boulevard and 150th street stop is approaching press one of the stop request buttons located throughout the bus along handrails and window frames. This will notify the bus driver that you would like to get off at the next stop.

    • 3

Exit the bus and locate the bus stop sign which indicates that the Q6 bus stops there. Stand at the stop until your bus approaches. You can identify the Q6 by reading the front panel display above the windshield.

    • 4

Board the Q6 before two hours have passed since your initial boarding so that your transfer is free of charge. Swipe your MetroCard again as you did when you boarded the Q7 and the automated system will recognize that the trip is a transfer and will not charge you an additional fare. If you have paid in coins notify the bus driver that you will require a transfer to the Q6.
