Guatemala Travel Requirements

Guatemala, located in Central America, is a warm, exotic country many Americans travel to. It is appreciated for its large beaches and resorts, Mayan history, and shopping opportunities.
  1. Passport

    • All U.S. citizens must have a valid passport to enter and exit Guatemala. Driver's licenses, birth certificates and photocopies are not accepted by the Guatemalan government.

    Tax

    • There is an exit tax that must be paid when someone leaves Guatemala by air.

    Minors

    • Minors entering and leaving Guatemala do not need permission from parents.

    Visas

    • Visas are needed for Americans staying in Guatemala for more than 90 days.

    Nearby Countries

    • In June 2006, the "Central America-4 (CA-4) Border Control Agreement" was passed. This means that any citizens of El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Guatemala can travel freely between those nations.
