Get your dog vaccinated for rabies at least 30 days before you leave for your trip. Obtain the rabies vaccination certificate from your vet. If you have a puppy under three months old, the rabies vaccination requirement does not apply. The rabies certificate must identify your dog by breed, age, sex, coloring and any distinguishing marks.
Check breed restrictions specific to the province you're visiting. Some provinces prohibit certain aggressive breeds. Be ready to prove your dog's breed is what you say it is. Carry breed registration papers or a veterinarian's breed certification to present at the border. If the border agent thinks your pup is part pit bull and you can't prove otherwise, you could be denied entry.
Present your dog's documentation along with your own at the border crossing. As long as your pet appears to be in good health, your dog should have no trouble crossing the border with you.
