Each individual container of liquid or gel must be 3.4 oz. or smaller. Regardless if its content is less than 3.4 oz., a larger-sized container is never allowed past the security checkpoint.
Each traveler is allowed one clear plastic zip-top bag. All individual containers must fit within the single bag to limit the total amount of liquids carried on board.
Certain medications, baby formula and breast milk are not subject to the 3.4 oz. limit, but must be declared in advance at the security screening checkpoint. All others with larger containers must discard them or place them into checked baggage.
TSA requires travelers to consolidate all containers into a single bag and remove it from hand luggage for screening.
Containers purchased after the checkpoint are allowed on board the aircraft as long as additional screening checkpoints are not encountered.
