Entry Regulations for Micronesia

The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) encourages travelers to visit their four island states: Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae. FSM does not require visas for all travelers; you must check the status of your nation prior to arrival.
  1. Required Travel Documents

    • All persons entering the FSM must carry with them a passport valid for 120 days after departure, a record of their departure plans and have applied for any required entry permits prior to arrival.

    Visitor Entry Permit

    • Any non-citizen visitor of the FSM staying longer then 30 days must apply for an entry permit. Entry permits for visitors will last for no longer than 60 days. Forms for all types of entry permits can be downloaded online.

    Special Entry Permits

    • Special entry permits can be obtained if you are a student, researcher, missionary, foreign investor, private worker or are the spouse or dependent of a citizen of FSM.

    Entry Permits for Vessels

    • If you are entering the FSM from a private vessel, you may only enter at designated ports of entry. Permits for all vessels are required and, unlike other entry permits, can be applied for upon arrival. All passengers must leave with the vessel unless special permission is obtained and the chief of immigration and labor verifies alternate travel plans.

    Exceptions

    • Citizens of FSM, the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands or the United States may use a birth certificate, passport or entry permit as proof of citizenship. Citizens of these nations may extend their entry permits to last for up to one year.
