The applicant must be a member of the nonprofit religious organization for at least two years, and the religious denomination must also be located in the U.S. as a nonprofit organization.
The organization to which the applicant plans to work for must be tax exempt, or qualify for tax exempt status.
The applicant must fully complete Form I-129, which can be obtained online or at an agency. This form is a petition for a non-immigrant worker to come to the United States.
Stay in the U.S. for the time awarded with the R1 Visa and not a day over. Staying even one day past the date of departure will cause your Visa to be voided, which may prevent future chances of renewing or obtaining another R1 Visa.
Provide proof of financial responsibility of the organization being able to support you. The proof has to be sufficient enough so that you are not living below poverty level.
