If your vehicle has been impounded by the New York City Police Department (NYPD) for unpaid traffic tickets, you will need to provide the following documentation to reclaim it:
1. Proof of ownership of the vehicle. This includes the vehicle registration and insurance card. If you are not the registered owner of the vehicle, you must provide a notarized letter from the registered owner stating that you are authorized to take possession of the vehicle.
2. A valid driver's license.
3. Proof of payment for all outstanding traffic tickets. You can obtain a list of your outstanding traffic tickets from the NYPD website or by calling the Traffic Violations Bureau at (212) 577-7277.
4. A surety bond. The amount of the surety bond will vary depending on the value of your vehicle. You can purchase a surety bond from an insurance company or a bond agent.
5. A storage fee. The storage fee for impounded vehicles is $20 per day.
Once you have gathered all of the required documentation, you can take it to the NYPD's Vehicle Impound Lot. The impound lot is located at 200 East 161st Street in the Bronx.
To reclaim your vehicle, you will need to present the following documentation to the impound lot attendant:
* Proof of ownership of the vehicle
* A valid driver's license
* Proof of payment for all outstanding traffic tickets
* A surety bond
* A storage fee
The impound lot attendant will then release your vehicle to you.
Important Note: If you do not reclaim your vehicle within 30 days of the date it was impounded, the NYPD will sell it at auction.
