Check Eligibility:
Make sure you meet the eligibility criteria for obtaining an SDB. Some of the basic requirements include:
- Being a citizen of Ireland or the European Union
- Being at least 18 years old
- Being medically fit to work on a seagoing vessel
- Having completed the required basic safety training
Gather Required Documents:
Collect the necessary documents to support your application, such as:
- A completed SDB application form
- A recent passport-sized photograph
- A copy of your valid passport or national identity card
- Proof of your seafaring experience, if any
- A valid medical certificate
- Certificates of completion for maritime safety training courses
- A declaration of previous service and good conduct
- Recent proof of address
- A fee, as set by the IMA
Complete SDB Application Form:
Fill in the SDB application form accurately and completely. Ensure that you provide all the required information, including personal details, qualifications, seafaring experience, and any other relevant information.
Submit Your Application:
Submit your completed application form and all the supporting documents to the Irish Maritime Administration:
- By post: Send the application to: The Irish Maritime Administration (IMA), Harbour Centre, Dublin 1, D01 E6X0
- In-person: Visit the offices of the IMA at the address mentioned above
Pay Application Fee:
Pay the application fee as instructed by the IMA.
Wait for Processing:
Wait for the IMA to process your application and issue your Seaman’s Discharge Book. This process may take some time, depending on the volume of applications and other factors.
Collect Your SDB:
Once your SDB is ready, you will receive a notification and can collect it from the IMA’s offices.
