Dogwood Canyon Nature Park covers 2,220 acres of beautiful Ozark land, spilling across into the Arkansas border south of Branson. The rugged and largely untouched landscape makes it easy to envision the area inhabited by native Americans and early European settlers. A relatively level six and a half mile paved trail takes bikers and walkers past waterfalls, limestone bluffs and a covered Amish bridge. Horseback riding and Segway tours are available. The park charges fees for all activities. Hours vary by season.

With more than 1,500 acres of land, the Ruth and Paul Henning Conservation Area is a popular outdoor attraction for hikers and nature lovers. Steep hills cover the forest that is interrupted by a series of glades, or open areas, referred to as "balds," by locals. Short nature trails--under two miles each--wind through the area. Make sure to make your way up the 40-foot viewing tower atop Dewey Bald, which affords a panoramic view of the White River Hills. Gates at the area open at 8 a.m. and close at dark. There is no entry fee.
