What is Times Square?

Times Square is a major commercial intersection, tourist destination, entertainment center, and neighborhood in Midtown Manhattan in New York City. It is Broadway and Seventh Avenue as it crosses 42nd Street. Additional streets nearby are named after the four cardinal directions (hence "Times Square").

Times Square is the location of the annual New Year's Eve ball drop, and is also the focal point for the Times Square Alliance's annual Broadway on Broadway and Times Square Broadway Market events, which attract millions of people each year. The area is also known for its large advertising billboards, theaters, and a range of other entertainment venues, such as the AMC Empire 25 movie theater, the Hard Rock Cafe, and Ripley's Believe It or Not!
