If your work or family schedule only allows you a few days rather than weeks or even months; you can still find adventure in your leisure time. Plan day activities from your house or travel an hour or two away and stay at a lodge or campground. Depending on where you live, you might take lessons in para-sailing, hang gliding, sky diving, white water rafting, zip-lining or scuba diving.
Travel to a tree-house resort. Many tree houses are for couples only since they are too small to accommodate an entire family. Some are located in hard-to-reach destinations that require a 4-wheel drive to access, such as in Hana, Hawaii. Others are deep in the forest of the Tetons or beside a waterfall in the Ozarks. You can explore by hiking, climbing or four-wheeling during the day and return to your secluded tree-house at night where you can both unwind and gear up for your next day's adventure.
Whether you are experienced or not, both of you can enjoy a rock climbing adventure. Travel to the Shawangunks in New York for instance or to Joshua Tree National Park in California. If you are inexperienced climbers, you should arrange to have a licensed guide with you for instruction and to provide you with safe equipment. Generally, geographical locations optimal for climbing often have nearby rivers for white water rafting and hiking trails to explore.
Make destination travel part of your adventure getaway by booking an Alaskan Cruise, a hiking adventure in Machu Picchu or a 10-day cycling cruise through Portugal and Spain. Backpack through the rugged Rockies in Canada or experience a 9-day safari adventure in Tanzania. Even better, for the ultimate in excitement, combine adventures by booking a two-week vacation in Kilimanjaro that includes climbing snow-capped Kilimanjaro and then moving on to safari into the Serengeti National Park where you both will sleep in safari-style walled tents by night and travel by day to see lions, rhinos, cheetahs, buffalo, elephants and more.
